The Selectors Crew are proud to bless February with a mix from none other than First Word label co honcho – BobaFatt!
BobaFatt has been DJing since the early ’90s. His mixes, radio shows and club sets have seen him awarded acclaim over the years from BBC 1Xtra, Mixcloud & Fact Magazine. In addition to a monthly Friday night show on Soho Radio (as 50% of Main Squeeze), he’s played on BBC 6 Music several times for Huey Morgan and had a 5-year stint on hip hop station, Itch FM, as well as a number of slots on stations such as NTS, Balamii & Worldwide FM.
He’s played at venues such as Ministry Of Sound, Fabric, Brixton Academy, The Roundhouse, The Jazz Cafe, Somerset House & Royal Albert Hall, and held down a decade-long residency at the Big Chill in East London, as well as residencies at festivals like Hospitality & Soundwave in Croatia.
For a day job, Boba spent many years working in record shops like Rough Trade, and for record labels CoOp Presents, Greco-Roman and R&S. He is currently label manager of First Word Records, named ‘Label Of The Year‘ at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards 2019 and home to artists such as Children of Zeus, 14KT, Kaidi Tatham, Tall Black Guy, Eric Lau, Tawiah & Yazmin Lacey.
Aside from sharing stages with a long-list of high profile DJs & musicians over the years, BobaFatt has provided session work/mixes for Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel, Roots Manuva’s Banana Klan, DJ Yoda, Death Waltz Records, Dazed, The Guardian & Who Sampled. He self-released a beat tape, ‘Switch Up’, consisting of his own productions earlier in 2019.
Other random facts include being a dancer in a music video for Chemical Brothers & Noel Gallagher, teaching the Mayor of Wimbledon how to scratch, and having a cup of tea with Banksy. Not on the same day.
One of the most eclectic DJs in the game & always on the search for sonic weaponry, all sounds are infiltrated, all parties are explosive.
