[PREMIERE] Henry Keen – Herb Chick

Selectors Assemble are hyped to bring you the premiere of “Herb Chick” the second single from Henry Keen’s soon to drop NEW album “Freedom In Movement”! This percussion driven dance floor workout with odes to Dub, Jazz-Funk and Broken Beat is a current Selectors favourite without a doubt!

A quick note about the premiere video we posted on our Instagram – the lovingly crafted video collage combined with Henry’s rhythmic soundscapes was put together by Jeen Bassa – a man better known for his own beats and lyrics with Mama Ode and Omas Sextet alongside solo releases on the 22a label.

Henry Keen is a DJ, Music Producer and performer based in London.

Henry’s musical passions include crate-digging and experimentation with analog synthesizers and sound FX. While his music doesn’t fit into genre boxes, Henry’s production style and ethos draws heavily from hip-hop culture, as well as an eclectic range of influences from his diverse record collection.

Henry’s musical inspiration is intertwined with travel and cultural exchange. He is a member of Electric Jalaba (Strut Records), a sextet fusing Moroccan gnawa with dance floor-focused electronics, and Soundspecies, an electronic duo who have recently explored the connections between traditional Afro-Cuban rhythms and contemporary dance music. Under his The Room Below alias, Henry has released two EPs and several singles on renowned UK experimental electronic label Don’t Be Afraid.

He has performed at festivals including Manana Cuba Festival, Sonar Festival in Barcelona, and Sunsplash in Antalya, Turkey.

Henry hosts a regular show on Pyro Radio and has released music with record labels Beauty & The Beat, Brownswood Recordings, Don’t Be Afraid, Strut and more. His music has been played on BBC Radio1, Radio 6, 1Xtra, Worldwide FM and NTS.

Freedom in Movement is Henry’s first DIY vinyl release, on his own imprint Release Yourself Records. The record celebrates the joys of boundless studio creation with its songs moving freely between tempos and styles, whilst maintaining a heavy rhythmic presence and odes to dancefloors past and future.
