Growing up in the metropolis of Istanbul, Cengiz was exposed to the melting pot of musical styles such a city is prone to. A confluence of eastern and western music propagated through his upbringing, but the style that would stick with him all the way to his eventual move to London was Jazz music. After moving Cengiz discovered the underground sounds of UKs evolving club music scenes, becoming an avid party goer through the Jungle and Garage eras. But where Cengiz really found his home was in the Broken Beat scene pioneered by the likes of IG Culture, 4 Hero and Bugz in the Attic.
Cengiz took his passion one step further by amassing a collection of records from NuJazz, Broken Beat and sounds beyond while homing in on his music production. Over the years his tracks have seen support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Lefto, IG Culture, Alex Phountzi, Red Rackem and EVM128.
In 2018 Cengiz finds himself with the very collective that inspired him to create and share music in the first place and is now a proud member of the Selectors Assemble crew and releases on the CoOp Presents label.
You can find Cengiz djing in some of London’s top music venues, and occasionally on the CoOp Presents: Selectors Assemble Worldwide FM radio show!
PS: Cengiz is the Turkish form of Genghis, as in Genghis Khan.
